My first attempts at garment sewing in my 8th grade Home Economics class failed miserably and I subsequently made my mother promise to NEVER get me a sewing machine, much to her dismay. If garment sewing was it, I was out. I hadn’t heard of machine piecing and quilting, thought I would never have the patience for handwork, and didn’t know anyone who quilted.
Fortunately, in 2002, while I was driving around lost in the metro area of Denver, Colorado, I stumbled upon a quilt shop. They had some machine piecing classes just getting ready to begin so I signed up. Now I needed a sewing machine! With a $150 entry-level Brother to get me started--as well as a high degree of ignorant bliss--I jumped in and was instantly obsessed. I’m intrigued by the myriad of design possibilities in traditional quilting, and I’ve started exploring art quilts as well.
Here at QN I spend my days editing and writing articles, writing patterns, requesting quilts from contributors, and troubleshooting as necessary. When not immersed in the quilting world I enjoy spending time with my husband, playing with my dogs, gardening, and reading.
