My first attempts at garment sewing in my 8th grade Home Economics class failed miserably and I subsequently made my mother promise to NEVER get me a sewing machine, much to her dismay. If garment sewing was it, I was out. I hadn’t heard of machine piecing and quilting, thought I would never have the patience for handwork, and didn’t know anyone who quilted. Fortunately, in 2002, while I was driving around lost in the metro area of Denver, Colorado, I stumbled upon a quilt shop. They had some machine piecing classes just getting ready to begin so I signed up. Now I needed a sewing machine! With a $150 Brother machine to get me started, and a high degree of ignorant bliss, I jumped in and was instantly obsessed. I’m intrigued by the myriad of design possibilities in traditional quilting, and I’ve started exploring art quilts as well. Here at QN I’m the voice of customer service, and spend my days writing patterns, requesting quilts from contributors, troubleshooting, and assisting the editors as necessary. When not immersed in the quilting world I enjoy spending time with my husband, playing with my dogs, gardening, and reading.
