Kathryn WrightKathryn Wagar Wright - Art Director

I come from a creative family that currently even includes a yellow lab who sings with my husband’s guitar and banjo playing. My dad gave us a love of travel and the outdoors, gardening, photography, and silk-screen printing and had us printing t-shirts for small town sports teams and campaign signs for our neighbor politicians. We often had printed t-shirts curing in the kitchen, painted a 20-foot long mural on the basement bedroom wall and were constantly building or sewing something. Mom made all my dresses until I was around 13 when she taught me to sew my own clothes. That led to my first hand-appliqued quilt, which I still haven’t finished.

When we moved to Colorado I landed in the position of Art Director for Quilters Newsletter where I am lucky to be able to combine my love of design, photography, printing and quilting daily. I’ve designed and made many repeat block and appliqué quilts for our Quilt It issues and several years ago I made my first hand-appliqued and machine-pieced pictorial art quilt. Now I ‘think’ quilt designs constantly, and love exploring my own quilting style.
