Meetin' Place: Ruth McDowell

Meetin' Place: Ruth McDowell

In March 1982, Quilters Newsletter published a Meetin' Place profile of an up-and-coming quilter, Ruth B. McDowell, who made a series of uncommon quilts based upon common weeds and herbs. The quilts shown in the article were conspicuously geometric, mostly symmetrical and each gave a subtle nod to traditional piecing and block patterns, while at the same time being original and modern. It's been over 30 years since that article was published, and McDowell has kept busy making art quilts, teaching, showing and selling her work over the past decades. See what Ruth McDowell is up to now and how things have changed for her in the April/May 2014 issue of Quilters Newsletter.
