One American Dream Comes True

In the March 2008 issue (400), we present the story of Hungarian immigrant Mary Gasperik (1888-1969) and her association with the Tuley Park Quilting Club from Chicago, Illinois. Mary's involvement with the club led to a long and prolific hobby as a quiltmaker. One of her early quilts was Star Arcturus, shown here, a Nancy Cabot pattern from the Chicago Tribune. On the lining is embroidered, "STAR ARCTURUS A CENTURY OF PROGRESS 1934 M. G." - a reference to the Chicago World's Fair and her initials.
