The August/September 2010 issue of Quilters Newsletter contains part one of a piece of historical fiction by Vicki N. Patterson with Cindy Vermillion Hamilton. Each part of the story will include a quilt pattern. While “Sarah: A Story in Stitches” is fictional, it is based on actual events and historical information about John Hewson, a Revolutionary War hero known for the beautiful textiles he printed in the American colonies. References Vicki and Cindy used to create Sarah’s story are listed here:

  • Martha Washington: An American Life by Patricia Brady (Penguin Group, 2005)
  • The American Quilt Story: The How-To and Heritage of a Craft Tradition, edited by Susan Jenkins and Linda Seward (Random House, 1993)
