Cinco de Mayo

The CK Media staff doesn’t miss an opportunity to celebrate every possible occasion with food. Today was no exception. Joli and I engaged in a brownie smackdown, each having improvised a south-of-the border twist on our favorite brownie recipes.

Joli added a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of chile powder to Duncan Hines fudge brownie mix. She sprinkled the top with more cinnamon.

I added a teaspoon of cinnamon, a teaspoon of medium-hot chile powder, and a tablespoon of hot red pepper flakes to a recipe for one-bowl brownies from the box of Baker’s or Nestle unsweetened chocolate.

Try both, or make your own variation and tell us about it.

Jan Magee brought her famous guacamole. Maybe we can persuade her to share the recipe. Adios for now.

Famous guacamole is right! I had a spoonful (to be polite and leave some for the others behind me in line). Big mistake! I went back for more and it looked as if the bowl has been licked clean. I hope we don’t have to wait until next Cinco de Mayo to have it again.
