Usually when I start piling up fabrics for a new quilt I can’t help getting excited. But I’m not so sure about my parents’ anniversary quilt.

At least there's red
Their taste is different than mine. Earth tones, simple patterns, white walls, Shaker furniture. Throw in a little excitement and it’s “gaudy” or “busy.”

Maybe it will get more exciting when I start piecing.
I’ll let you know.

I say JUST DO IT. Trust the quilt to know what it needs! (I know that sounds weird, but once you experience it, you understand!)
I sewed a signature quilt once for a friend to give to a critically (terminally) ill friend. We tried to match the recipient’s color scheme, we really did, but the quilt refused to cooperate. The quilt needed what the *quilt needed* and as we picked out the colors my NON-QUILTY friend agreed . The quilt was stunning, was loved by all and was displayed in the home — even though the colors didn’t match the decor. And we’re so glad we listened to the quilt!
Your parents will love it and enjoy it because you filled it with love as you worked on it — whether or not it perfectly matches their decor or their taste!
