To Pre-Wash or Not

Are you a pre-washer? Or not?

I’m looking forward to being a pre-washer once again. My nice front-loaders are still in Ohio with the rest of the household, but I’m getting a hand-me-down washer and dryer this weekend for my apartment. Yay! I’d forgotten how exciting the prospect of being able to do laundry whenever it suits me (or wash fabric – which is the really important part icon wink To Pre Wash or Not can be.

I can totaly relate: no laundry facilities when we are so used to it is just the worst. I love the prewash phase of my projects. the handling, pressing and folding are such tactile pleasures to us fabriholics.

I only prewash reds, and a few of darker colours depending upon the manufacturer of fabric.

Through you championing details. It helped me in my task

  4. Pre-washing is soooo necessary… not just for dye issues, but for accurate piecing – since your fabrics will shrink at various rates.
I use my serger set for a simple 2 thread serge, and serge raw edges before I drop them in the wash! I usually just fold and put up – since I’ll have to iron them when I get ready to cut!

I am new to this world of quilting and I wasn’t sure what the final word was on this. I think the serge-ing the edges makes a lot of sense. I guess I was hoping I could stay with the fresh crisp new fabric.
