2010 Quilting in America

Here’s a great chance to support your favorite quilt shop and become a winner while you’re at it! We are giving away one copy of The National Survey of Quilting in America 2010, the triennial publication presented by Quilters Newsletter and Quilts, Inc. This valuable resource, nearly 200 pages of statistics and in-depth information about the quilting industry, helps industry professionals–including the owners of your favorite quilt shops–make informed decisions about how to best serve you. The price of the book is $125.00, and it can be ordered online. But nominate your favorite quilt shop now for a chance to win this awesome prize for them. And if the shop you nominated is selected, then you will win a fabulous fat quarter pack from Westminster Fibers/Free Spirit Fabrics. Here’s how to enter:

1. Leave a comment below and tell us in no more than 100 words why your favorite shop/shop owner should win. Don’t forget to tell us the name of the shop and the city and state of its location.

2. You may nominate more than one shop.

3. We will be reading all the entries to select a winner, so there’s no point in the same person nominating the same shop more than once.

Shiisa Quilts in Bloomington, Indiana. Have you ever walked into a store and felt happy? That is what this store does for me. Bright and cheerful and full of energy!!

I would like everyone to vote for the Quilter’s Garden in Fenton, Mi. It has the best displays and products in our whole area. They have a very helpful, interested in your project staff and always a smile. It is so much fun to go in and talk about all their projects and to check out all the new fabric and classes. Always something new to inspire you to the next project.

  3. Shannon Hubbard says:

My favorite quilt shop is the Quilter’s Garden in Fenton, MI. The Batik wall is my favorite, no other shop that I have been too has as many to choose from. There are lots of samples to give you ideas on what a project looks like or inspiration on trying something new. The staff always try to make sure all your questions are answered and that you have the right fabric for your project.

  4. Pat says:

My favorite shop is Lone Star House of Quilts in Arlington, Texas. The ladies that work there are always friendly, and the teachers are great. They have a wonderful selection of Reproduction Fabrics and they are just all around good people. And their prices can’t be beat.

  5. Barbara Cissne says:

I nominate Lone Star House of Quilts in Arlington, Texas. It is one of my favorite shops because of the leader of the Jo Morton Little Women Club – Betsy Chutchian. She makes it so much fun and educational with her knowledge of history. She is a motivator and inspires all of us. The shop specializes in Civil War Reproductions and everyone is always friendly and ready to help. It is like home away from home.

  6. Mary Jane Burton says:

My favourite shop is Lone Star House of Quilts in Arlington, TX. They have a wonderful selection of the fabrics I love – Jo Morton in particular, batiks and restoration/civil war fabrics. Their staff is particularly courteous and willing to help whatever way they can.

  7. Mimi says:

I nominate Lone Star House of Quilts in Arlington, TX. I enjoy the monthly meetings of various groups and all the fabric that goes with it. Lovely ladies who know their merchandise and their customers. Oh, and they are FUN.

  8. Patti Legge says:

I nominate Kilauea Kreations II in Hilo, Hawaii. Living on an island it is extremely important to have access to beautiful, high quality fabrics; small classes from quilting 101 to more advanced classes and first-class teachers who go to seminars to bring us the latest projects and techniques. Despite a small shop they have managed to a wonderful selection of fabrics including batiks, orientals, etc. and imaginative ever-changing displays of quilts and projects to as samples for classes and some special “Made in Hawaii” souvenirs for tourists as well as Janome machines for the locals. In other words a perfect blend of everything quilting.

  9. Linda Rickman says:

I nominate Morning Star Quilt Store located in Paradise, CA. Maybe I am prejudiced because they carry a lot of batiks, but their fabrics are to die for, they continually have something new on display so that I have more ideas of projects to do, plus I love their block of the month clubs. Marsha and her staff are friendly, knowledgeable and warm hearted. Each year they raffle off quilts many which were store displays for a local charity from the Fire Department to a local school If you ever get near Paradise, it is definitely worth the trip.

  10. Jackie Spencer says:

I nominate Crafttown Fabrics in Salem Indiana, the store is awesome, with over 7000 bolts of fabric, samples everywhere, and a friendly staff that greet you at the door!
They have classes for beginners and those more advanced.
The store just has a friendly quilty atmosphere, and I love it!!

  11. Shiisa Quilts in Bloomington, IN is a really wonderful shop. The array of color is spectacular–from Asian to batik. Lots of really nice patterns and samples to help you find just the right project to work on. Something new to see every time you go into the shop. Definitely a great shop!

  12. The Calico House Quilt Shop is one of those shops that are literally, “an experience,” each time you shop there. The fabrics and beautiful, the staff warm, friendly and ALWAYS willing to help you and take the time you need to meet your needs. The owners Larry & Cindy Zechter offer a class to new quilter’s at no charge called, “New Quilter’s Society.” They want to always give back to the local community. I really respect their leadership.

  13. My favorite quilt shop is Chester County Quilting in Phoenizville, PA. As a newly wed (30 years ago) I liked the idea of being a quilter. I purchased a kit with hopes of making it for our bed. That kit sat for almost 25 years because I was afraid of starting it and messing it up. When my son got married 5 years ago I thought maybe I would finally attempt the project. With the help and patience of Ramona (Chester County Quilting shop owner) we came up with a plan for enlarging my initial kit and updating some of the fabrics. Ramona has always been so helpful and encouraging. It doesn’t matter if you are a newby or a veteran quilter she is there to answer questions, give advice and help you along. Her shop offers many wonderful things but the personable attention has been priceless to me.

  14. Bethany Mikolajczyk says:

I nominate the Quilter’s Garden in Fenton, MI. The shop is absolutely amazing, the projects are creative, and the owner Carolyn is always very helpful. A great place to be creative, learn new techniques, and spend time with friends.

  16. Maryam says:

Of course Shiisa Quilts store in Bloomington, Indiana. My local store. I travel alot and visit many quilt stores but Shiisa is the best. They are so, so, so friendly and helpful. They got everything just what you need. They always have the latest fabrics, but dont forget to check their clearance racks. If they dont have it, they will search and order it for you. Its the best!

  17. Lisa Dodson says:

Shiisa Quilts in Bloomington, Indiana, is the place to go if you are a modern, non-traditional quilter or home sewer. The exceptional colors and selections are a notch above the others. Shiisa stocks numerous current fabric lines along with some garment fabrics and a unique variety of patterns. The friendly, knowledgeable staff greet you as you come through the door and a variety of classes are offered by industry professionals. There are lots of kits and shop samples to inspire and Shiisa is a full service Bernina dealer too.

  18. Janet Kelley says:

I nominate The Quilters Garden and Carolyn Nance of Fenton Michigan. The minute you walk through the doors you are engulfed by an amazing assortment of beautuful colors and designs. A “Garden of Colors” if you will. Carolyn and her staff should be commended for their assistence and professionalism. You all must make the trip to Fenton Michigan and vist the most amazing shop.

  19. Barb McCarty says:

Calico Cupboard in Pataskala Ohio. This is a small shop but filled with lots of great fabrics and kits. All the staff and the owner are super friendly and willing and able to assist with any questions you have. They offer classes of which I have not taken any but I have several of my friends have and they loved all of them. The shop has offered bus trips to the Quilt show in Paducah with lots of extra things to do on the trip. They have also sponsored trips to the Dairy Barn in Athens Ohio for different quilt exhibits. I am new to quilting and once I get organized this is the shop I plan to take some classes to help me further my knowledge of the different techniques used in quilts.

  20. Judy says:

    Fabric Shack Waynesville, Ohio

Love spending the afternoon shopping here. They are friendly and helpful.

  21. sherry hudson says:

In my home town, Shiisa Quilts is wonderfully colorful and inspiring. This is a somewhat new quilt shop, but I’m finding myself drawn in by their unique patterns and colorful fabrics and now I’m doing a block-of-the-month because their option is so much more appealing than others I considered. I look forward to taking some classes and doing more projects. I’m a beginning quilter, and inspiration and guidance is helpful for me as I find my own style.
