Ever been to Chicago? I spent the weekend there with my sister and her daughter, Stephanie, who lives there. She was a great hostess and tour guide. And we did a lot of the tourist things: Macy’s, Millenium Park, the Christmas Market. We also visited the Chicago Architectural Foundation. What amazing buildings this city has, lots of old ones, lots of news ones and an amazing blend of the two. Steph also took us to the Chicago Cultural Center, to see the building’s beautiful interior spaces: aqua and gold mosaics everywhere, a newly restored Tiffany Dome and a program she is interested in. Project Onward is a studio and gallery dedicated to the creative growth of artists with mental and developmental disabilities (www.projectonward.org). Stephanie is a special education teacher. She is passionate about her work and she hopes to place some of her students there. It was great to see the energy and art in this space and I sure hope she is successful in her quest.

How does this trip tie in with quilts? Well, Steph is recently engaged and a wedding quilt will be in the planning stages soon. Without tipping my hand, let me just say that Chicago inspired me and I can’t wait to get started.

On my first trip to Chicago I was in love with all the Art Deco style buildings. Even the floors and facades were gorgeously decorated. It was really inspiring!
My husband and I go to Chicago every August and we walk everywhere we go. The old buildings are beautiful! Navy Pier is also a great place to visit and get inspired.
