My former home town of Grand Rapids, Michigan will play host to the American Quilter’s Society Show and Contest next August and again in 2013 and 2014. I’ve known about this for a few weeks (thanks to friends in my old guild), and now that it’s being reported in the media I can talk about it too!
I’m very proud of my fellow guild members in the West Michigan Quilters’ Guild for snagging this huge national show. They expect about 10,000 people in town for the event, which will take place at DeVos Place Convention Center in downtown Grand Rapids.
Guild members will be volunteering as white glovers, ticket takers, and in a variety of other roles that are required to make a show of this size run smoothly. With a membership of approximately 500 women and men, the guild has lots of willing hands.
In addition to the gorgeous quilts, vying for prizes worth $40,000, there will be 350 vendors and 150 classes to attend.
Congratulations to the guild and to the city of Grand Rapids!
