Quilters Newsletter has long enjoyed a friendship with Patchwork Tsushin, a leading Japanese quilt magazine. So when Editor in Chief Naomi Ichikawa emailed to say her magazine is collecting comfort quilts for those impacted by the recent earthquake in Japan, we wanted to join the effort. QN will gather quilts from U.S. quiltmakers then forward them to Naomi and her staff, who will deliver them to those in need. (If you live outside the United States, email me as indicated below, and I will provide information on how you can send quilts directly to Naomi.)
Here’s how you can be part of this important worldwide response:
• Send quilts of any size from baby to adult to:
Dana Jones
Quilters Newsletter
741 Corporate Circle, Suite A
Golden, CO 80401
• Mark your box: “Quilts for Japan.”
• Send quilts as soon as possible and no later than April 30, 2011.
• Enclose your name, address, phone number, and email address with the quilts.
If you have questions, please email Dana Jones.

Hello!
I just wanted to let you know that there is a group “Quilts for Japan” on Facebook operating out of Calgary, Alberta Canada collecting and distributing quilts to Japan as well. Should you wish to pass this information onto interested Canadians I would be more than happy to respond. Interested persons can email me at glassylady@shaw.ca Should I hear from interested persons residing in the United States shall I pass them onto you? Many thanks for your help,
Bev Rogan

-Bringing love and comfort to the lives of Japan’s victims, one quilt at a time
will pass them onto you.
I think I am correct in saying this: red and white symbolize good luck to the Japanese. It might be nice to incoporate those colors into a quilts! Just a thought………..

This is a great idea. Maybe we can help with this in our new quilting class at Maine Arts Camp this summer. We love to get the kids involved in community service projects. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this opportunity. My son was in Japan 3 years ago and we were advised that the color white is one of mourning for their culture. Just a thought as you plan your quilts.

I have put this post on my blog and facebook. I also sent it to my store email list. We have a sew day scheduled for April 16 at the shop: Batiks Etcetera and Sew What Fabrics. I’m so glad to have a link to send quilts.

I belong to a quilting group composed mostly of Japanese ladies. We meet once a week at a church and will be getting a box of quilts ready for shipment to QN.
Hi, I live in Slovakia (Europe) and also shared the information on my blog. I want to encourage our quilters to send quilts directly to Naomi, so now I wait for information from Dana Jones. Thanks for sharing this!
We are a Quilters Group in South Africa and are so lucky to have found a sponser who will deliver ALL THE QUILTS THAT WE CAN GATHER IN SA , FOR FREE to Naomi in Japan, isnt it WONDERFULL!!!
How will they be distributed? Sounds wonderful especially for children.
Will get started immediately in South Africa
Thanks for the info…I knew Quilters would step up to help, just couldn’t find a resource for getting quilts to Japan. This will be a great way to distribute some of my Practice quilts!!! Thanks for helping me clear out my stash!!! It’s unfortunate we can’t get quilts there for their cold season but we can only do what we can do…its just important to do SOMETHING for them. Prayer & Quilts, a winning combination!!!

I am doing a quilt drive in my community. I plan to fly to Japan on business in early April and take as many as I can with me. I am glad to see others are doing the same. Thank you! Quilts are like big momma hugs!

Wonderful plan. Will do all I can to contribute.
I’ll check my stash of quilts and fabric this weekend. I have a couple of quilts that have no homes, so they are ready to go immediately and I have a bunch of children’s fabrics that I can make up into quilts quickly too. Will be sending things soon.
I have been wanting to make this Asian inspired quilt for two years now. A month ago I got started on it and got the top pieced but then had to stop for another quilt for a friend. As soon as that is done, I’ll do the applique on this Asian quilt and send it along – it’s beautiful and lap sized.
I will donate a beautiful queen that I made…question is…should I leave it as a queen, or cut it into 4 smaller quilts? I don’t have a problem with cutting and re-binding.
I am so moved and touched with all of your generosity that I actually started crying. This is a wonderful thing you are doing! I am truly inspired and will do what I can.
I will go through my stas and see what I can send. I’m sure I have at least one. Will send asap.
Nancy in Pittsburgh
If you want to make sure your quilts get there, people can check with their local Project Linus chapters. They are working on sending quilts as well, and have connections with the military. It will help get quilts to those in need as well as help our military families in need as well.
Dear Nancy, Sent your request to my guild members. I’ll be sending quilts the end of April. I’ve been waiting to do something just did’t know who to contact. Yours, Kathy Trudeau-Gee; Piney Woods Quilting member of RumpelQuiltsKins, Michigan
Hi, I am in Australia and wondered if we could send quilts direct from here. Is there a collection point here in Oz? Our group would love to contribute some quilts for Japan. Please help me find a link for this. Thanks heaps.
What a wonderful idea, I have been praying for the people of Japan now I can do something constructive!!! Thank you for this opportunity!
Hi just wondering, are fleece blankets okay? Please email me to let me know. As I have 6 large ones and 3 smaller ones, that I would love to donate! Thank you.
I am going to ask my guild to make this a group project. We are gettting also involved with Just a Star for our troops. We wish you the best for such a good cause.

Hello,
I’m french, I live in south France.
I’m making quilts with some other women and I proposed them to make a quilt together and send it to Japan . But I don’t have any address where to send it …I would be happy if you can help me
Many thanks
Hi. So glad to find you are doing this I’m sure there are others collecting closer to me but I like your magazine and your professional way.
I will be sending 3 quilts at the end of the week. THX
I am coming to Colorado in June – I hope to be able to drop
some off then in Golden
Carol
Cool, Carol! We had two ladies from Utah drop off a carload of quilts this week and they are coming back with more next week. Many of them were even long-arm quilted, since that was faster for the quilters than tying them.
Hi Carol – it just occurred to me, June is far too late. We need quilts before April 30th as the post says. Otherwise we won’t be able to ship them. If they won’t be done until June you may want to find a different outlet for sending them.
I head up a group of over 100 members at the Voyager RV Resort in Tucson AZ. We give a couple hundred quilts a year away to charity. When I saw this appeal I brought it to our group and we will be sending about 20 quilts next week.
