Technology – Friend or Foe?

I write my blog every Monday. If I’m not here on Monday, I sometimes just plain don’t think about it until the next Monday. That’s what happened to me last week. I took Monday off so my blog post never happened. Sorry about that.

Tri-color Rock

This past weekend we had a break in the weather after more than three weeks of temperatures in the 90s and near 100. Finally we had a day with a high in the 80s. It was so nice and I worked hard. We have decided to change a lot of my flower beds to rock. The combination of the ongoing drought and my absence from home during the week means that they are beginning to look awful. So this weekend we bought the first two of many pickup loads of rock and started the overhaul. I took photos. I have photos of the rock project in my phone. Really, I do! I took them before I left home so I could share them here in my blog.

The first telephone that I remember our family having was a wall phone and you turned the crank to get the operator. Granted we lived in a very rural area but nevertheless, I do remember that old phone. What we have now is so much better! We have cell phones that make and receive phone calls, give us directions, connect us to the Internet and take and send photos. Ever since yesterday afternoon, I have been having a discussion with my phone. I want it to send those photos of the rock project. It doesn’t want to. So far the phone is winning.

After moving a ton of rock over the weekend, I think that I’ll just take it easy this week. There are always lots of interesting quilting projects for me to try.

I started sewing my Staff Picks block for the December/January issue of Quilters Newsletter last night and I am really excited to see how it comes out. So far, I am loving it. It has lots of fussy cutting – a specific part of the pattern for the center of the block, stripes that need to be the same on each of the four sides of the block, etc. Finishing that block will be the first thing on the agenda.

As soon as I finish that project, I want to start making classroom samples for a class that I’ll be teaching at the Georgia Quilt Show in October. I love teaching. It is just so fun to think that something those students learn from me may help them make their masterpiece one day.

I do feel like I have unfinished business to tell you about. I did finish the quilt that I talked about in my July 23 blog post. See “Chocolate Anyone” if you missed it. I’ve decided the name that will go on the label is “Chocolate – a Quilter’s Best Friend” suggested by Melissa. The pattern that will be in the Best Fat Quarter Quilts special issue will have to be a different name. It would take too much space to explain the whole story in the copy in the magazine. It wouldn’t make sense to our readers without an explanation since there is not a bit of brown in the fabric, but those of you who read my blog regularly will know. I hope it makes you smile when you see the quilt.

Now back to that phone. I’ve decided it has officially won this round. I need to get on to my next project.

Have you checked out Quilters Newsletter TV? I am so excited about it! This week we are showing stories gathered at the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo in Raleigh, North Carolina. We are getting to meet so many wonderful people in the process of doing the episodes.

I hope you have a wonderful “quilty” week.

The yard looks GREAT, Momma! As far as technology, I’m still mad ’cause I’m not as “smart” as my phone…. =]

I have gone from party line phones where u had to sometimes wait to use the phone because another household was using it to a phone and car hookup where I don’t can talk to multiple people or not even use my voice just texting to multiple friends at one time.

Technology = friend. I’m an old gal that remembers manual typewriters & party lines. I would have all kinds of new electronic/computerized gadgets IF I could afford them. And, I really don’t have room for more geegaws and gadgets unless I throw out some of my old treasures – not happening! :’)
