If you’ve been following our blog posts from the past week you know we’re in the middle of our 12 Days of Best Christmas Quilts blog tour. But I want to take advantage of the break in the tour offered by the weekend to give a little attention to one of the other patterns in Best Christmas Quilts 2012, the Winter Delights pillow by ZJ Humbach.
When ZJ submitted pattern proposals for this edition of Best Christmas Quilts, she showed us a pillow with a ruffle she’d made 15 years ago with Christmas fabrics that were popular at the time. We liked it, but to be honest, we thought it was a little dated. Once we looked past the ruffle and the small-scale prints, we appreciated ZJ’s use of the log cabin block and her always-stellar machine quilting. We asked if she would she be interested in making a new version for the magazine, and of course she said yes.
To take it even further, ZJ agreed to describe her design approach in this week’s episode of Quilters Newsletter TV, “Quilt Pattern Remix,” now available for viewing on our website. Check it out to see the original pillow and to hear ZJ’s tips for picking the right modern fabric to freshen up your holiday decor.
