SUMMER’S OVER, MOVING ON

Summer is over here in Golden, Colorado. I have harvested my two peach trees (it was an epic year) and pulled up the tomato plants. We don’t have the amazing fall colors of the eastern woods, but the golden aspen here put on quite a show.

The QN staff and designers have successfully finished our blog tour for the Best Christmas Quilts 2012. I have to thank our readers for their compliments on the photography in the magazine. Several of you remarked about the Calling Birds and other photos. Photo styling is one of the most interesting parts of this job.  There are several tricks for getting that shot just right. Painter’s tape, safety pins and fishing line are part of my tool box, as are inspiration and a little magic. For those of you who wonder how some of those quilts “hang on the wall” without visible means of support, they are temporarily taped from behind. My photographer and I are very mindful of the homes and shops that we use for our shots, so we leave no permanent marks.

To order a copy of Best Christmas Quilts 2012 or Quilters Newsletter, August/September 2012 issue visit the Quilt and Sew Shop.

Are the Christmas Flag patterns going to be continued? Nothing new has been posted for awhile. I think this is a really good project.

My massage therpist would ‘just die for’ this color palette. Fall is her favorite time of the year.
