Electric Quilt Giveaway

EQ 0031 1024x768 Electric Quilt Giveaway

In the October/November issue of Quilters Newsletter we included a quilt called Books and Papers designed by our friends at The Electric Quilt Company. To go along with that pattern, we are giving away Electric Quilt 7 Quilt Design software courtesy of The Electric Quilt Company.

I love EQ. Before I got it, my husband worked out of town and only came home on the weekends. Frequently when he got home, I’d have a project on the sewing table and I’d say, “Math Man, I need you.” He knows all about ¼” seams, half square triangles, blocks on point, etc. I could design and sew but I needed him to check my math. When I got EQ, he was relieved of that task. EQ does the math for me. I wonder if he misses that. I’ll have to ask him.

For your chance to win this great prize, tell us about your experiences with math and quilts by leaving a comment below on this blog by midnight MDT – Sunday, September 30. We will draw one name at random, and that lucky person will win Electric Quilt 7. One comment per person, please. Open to those who haven’t won something from QN in the past 90 days.

wow, you mean my stuff would actually maybe come out correct, I wouldn’t have to “improvise” to make things fit!!!!! Would LOVE one…

  2. Charlotte Massey says:

What a joy it would be to have EQ. Then I wouldn’t have to think so hard and try to remember fractions. I love the challenge but this would speed me up. Thanks for this chance to win.

  3. D Hatfield says:

This would be a great asset to draft quilt patterns and to calculate the correct amount of fabric. Also, this would be helpful when you have a piece of fabric you want to work into a specific pattern but don’t know if the piece of fabric is enough for the project.

  4. Valerie Messina says:

My problem is that I HAVEN’T had a math experience quilting yet. I am leery of designing something for myself because of the math! Winning EQ would help me get these designs in my head out of there and made!

  5. Robin Mundell says:

I have made several quilts without a pattern. I sew, I recalculate, rip, sew, escalate, sew, etc. I made a tanker quilt for husband with Navy memorabilia from his Yeats of service as well as our son and daughter’s navy experiences as well. All of the shirts, badges were different sizes. When I made the second strip it was many inches longer than the first strip. I did a lot of ripping, sewing and reconfiguring squares…but I did not let the project win. I finished it and he was very happy with the outcome! So was I ! The math was a killer. I never was good at any math!

  6. Denise G. says:

Oh Boy! I usually have so much trouble in the math department for quilts! Thank god for friends who are better at math than I am for calculating yardage and block sizes! I typically buy more fabric than I need and have left over fabric for a scrap quilt!

  7. Robin Mundell says:

I made a t-shirt quilt. Gosh I hate auto spell!!!! The quilt honoured his years of service. Had to clarify.

  8. Judi Smith says:

Designing the unique arrangement for my granddaughters Garden Patch Cats quilt should have been easy but somehow I managed to mess up the calculations and ended up cutting all of the sashing and border pieces too short. To make matters worse, I could not find more of the fabric anywhere. In order to make it work, I had to make many random slashes in each of the strips and add an accent color. Fortunately, the result looks good but it added a lot of extra work (and extra expense for the accent fabric) to get the quilt to the correct size.

  9. Katherine Carter says:

I’m always trying to resize a pattern that I like, but, when it comes down to getting the pieces to fit is another story I’d love to do electric quilt.

  10. Patti Cole says:

I love the math part — it gives me a chance to use that algebra I never thought I’d use (and never did until I started quilting!)… It is nice to know my brain still works after all these years (!), but it would be great to skip right to the sewing and not take so much time doing all that ‘cipherin’! And to see color variations at the click of a button would be a dream!

  11. Janet P. says:

Most of the time I use a trusty calculator to figure how much to cut from yardage. I just have to be satisfied with someone else’s pattern. EQ would certainly be a help in making my own!

  12. Rita ross says:

I love designing quilts! I would live EQ7 as a team player!

  13. Goldie says:

I would love to be able to see colors and designs before I cut! I and count dollars and cents until the cows come home, but inches and yards intimidate me!!

  14. Marilyn Snow says:

This would be a great asset to my quilting!! Thanks for the giveaway!!

  15. Geri Chapman says:

It doesn’t matter how hard I try or how many times I recalculate, I’m wrong. Would love an EQ7 to help me.

  16. Teri Powers says:

    great idea!

  17. Sophie Ogle says:

    Math + quilts = function + beauty + warmth + angles + lines +….

  18. Heidi Duryea says:

I always redo the math on quilt patterns, because i know how to cut accurately, and it saves me money in the long run! Well, actually, it frees up more money to spend on fabric!

  19. barb says:

Math is how I learner to quilt. With a mother who taught geometry and trigger and was a sewer. It was only natural. Keep my graph paper handy when ideas strike!

  20. Linda L. Bush says:

    I quilt.
    Therefore’ I want and need.

  21. Laura says:

I have always been very good at math and can usually figure out any block I may see. However, I want EQ7 so bad! I am currently unemployed and can’t buy it so all I can do is drool when I see some of the beautiful quilts people are making with it!

  22. Eleanor Hasko says:

I would love to use EQ to help me to figure the size of block and size of quilt since I never get right size for complete quilt. Also I need to know how much fabric to make a quilt.

  23. Marie says:

Love math, have definite issues with geometry. Hate wasting precious fabric because I miscalculate those triangle formulas. EQ is always a big help with this.

  24. Elizabeth Wilson says:

Free – to a retiree, that’s magic. I have an older version I can’t afford to update that on a computer that’s dieing. I like even the old version but it would be nice to see what the newest version is like. I’ve used EQ to ‘check’ color placement as I try to get a new facet of life started – creating original designs for sale (maybe?). EQ has always been helpful with cutting guides, yardage, etc.

  25. Sharon says:

I can do the math but it takes time. If I would be lucky enough to win, I could use that time to do the sewing.

  26. When I was in high school, my strongest class was geometry. I did very well in that class. It was not until I started quilting that I realized (1) how geometry would help me in life, and (2) why I had a knack for it.

I would love to win Electric Quilt 7. I have EQ5, but did not upgrade to 6 as I had not been quilting for a while. Now I am quilting again, and I am craving this software.

  27. Allison Bird says:

    Wow – who won???????

  28. Becky in Indiana says:

I’ve been wondering who won also. I haven’t seen any mention of it anywhere.

  29. ali says:

still wondering who won the EQ& (with fingers crossed!!!!)
