THE AIRSTREAM TRAILER

Have you checked out the Oct-Nov 2012 Quilters Newsletter issue yet? There is great stuff in the magazine as always. I was really excited about Pam Rocco’s column this time. Pam shares her views with us and illustrates her thoughts with her quilts. And Quilters Newsletter offers you a free web pattern of one of her quilts in every issue. This time we chose City Traffic.

airstream 186x300 THE AIRSTREAM TRAILER

I created all the illustrations for this pattern and one of them was an Airstream Trailer. Drawing that trailer brought back memories of a family vacation. My parents took us on a trip from Ohio to California and back. We had an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon, an Apache pop-up camper trailer, two adults and five kids, all in one space. We camped our way across the west and had a great time. The only moment of regret was in Lake Mead, Nevada. As my dad pulled into the campground, we were amazed at the sight of a dozen Airstream Trailers, all parked together. They were big, shiny and most of all, air-conditioned. Lake Mead is hot, really hot in July. Our faithful little Apache just could not compete and we all wished for a little of that air-conditioned luxury. We survived and have great memories of our trek to the West Coast, but to this day, I would still like to travel in an Airstream Trailer just once.

We actually owned an airstream and went camping in the cold West Virginia mountains. It was really snuggly warm but also real close quarters for four people. All in all it was a fun camping trip. Thanks for triggering some great memories.

During the 1970′s and ’80′s camping (tent and then “upgraded” to a pickup camper) and fishing were my husband and 4-B’s favorite family fun. I miss those times very much. Now my activities involve quilting….I could always use a bit more fabric!!!

  9. Just now saw this. I guess I’m too late for the drawing. :(

I have a 5 year old grandson that would love this quilt… and I would love to win the fabric roll. I am a fairly new quilter ( just a few years) and love learning new patterns and techniques.
