Seeing as how today is Epiphany, the official end of the Christmas season, I am getting this blog post in just under the wire. During my time off over the holidays I was inspired by responses we got to the Calling Birds ornaments designed by Jen Daly and included in our Best Christmas Quilts 2012 special issue to make a few handfuls myself.
A few were sent off to new homes, and the rest will be ready and waiting when it comes time to send cards and gifts next Christmas.
These are a perfect scrap-busting project. I even cut the beaks from a piece of quilting cotton that I folded and fused wrong sides together with fusible web. So if you’re still harboring a bit of Christmas spirit and want to get a jump on next year (this year?), Calling Birds might be just the thing you’re looking for.
