I know what you’re thinking: did that just say, “Day 1?” No need to pinch yourself, you’re not dreaming, we’re having an entire week of fabric giveaways on our blog to promote our newest special interest publication Best Fat Quarter Quilts 2012! This issue’s stocked with 27 exclusive projects that’ll have you busting out your precut stash in no time. From kid’s quilts to home decor, you’ll find projects that’ll keep you busy quilting until it’s time for spring cleaning.
I’ll be highlighting four patterns from the issue each day this week and giving a shout-out to our fabulous designers, so be sure to stop by their blogs or websites and show some love.
One of my favorite throws featured in Best Fat Quarter Quilts 2012 is Trifles designed by Jocelyn Ueng of It’s Sew Emma in Austin, Texas. This simple, but tasteful quilt is perfect for showcasing your favorite prints in your fat quarter bundle. Adding a coordinating solid fabric will make these prints pop. This pattern is also available in a kit from Fat Quarter Shop.
Red & Black Licorice from Tina Curran is the perfect way to sharpen your curved piecing skills. Tina challenged herself to use only red, black and white fabrics, creating this scrappy, but lively wall hanging. Try taking the same challenge yourself, and stick with one of your favorite palettes for a completely unique version. See more of Tina’s work on her website.
A little inconsistency when cutting the applique shapes for this fun quilt will result in a more authentic feel. “Like a true Zen Garden, things are arranged in a peaceful pattern to promote serenity but perfection is not the goal,” says Kim Hanson of Charm & Whimsy, designer of My Zen Garden. Featuring the Sunny Happy Skies collection from Riley Blake, this quilt would brighten up any little girls’ room.
Ramona Sorensen’s Round & Round pattern lets you showcase various monochromatic prints and blenders in this classic bed quilt. Rather than sticking with one line, Ramona took advantage of the large, easy-to-piece courthouse steps block and let her creativity create her own fabric “collection.”
So where’s the free fabric?!
One lucky winner will receive two 10” Stackers and two 5” Stackers from Riley Blake Designs, while a second winner will be chosen to receive a bundle of fat quarter blenders and two charm square packs from Robert Kaufman.
Leave a comment by midnight MDT tonight – January 28 – and you’ll be entered for a chance to win one of these prize packs. We’ll draw two names at random. One comment per person please. Open to those who haven’t won something from Quilters Newsletter in the last 90 days. This giveaway has ended.
