Trifles by Jocelyn Ueng
One of my favorite throws featured in Best Fat Quarter Quilts 2012 is Trifles designed by Jocelyn Ueng of It’s Sew Emma in Austin, Texas. This simple, but tasteful quilt is perfect for showcasing your favorite prints in your fat quarter bundle. Adding a coordinating solid fabric will make these prints pop. This pattern is also available in a kit from Fat Quarter Shop.
Red & Black Licorice, Tina Curran
Red & Black Licorice from Tina Curran is the perfect way to sharpen your curved piecing skills. Tina challenged herself to use only red, black and white fabrics, creating this scrappy, but lively wall hanging. Try taking the same challenge yourself, and stick with one of your favorite palettes for a completely unique version. See more of Tina’s work on her website.
Kim Hanson's My Zen Garden
A little inconsistency when cutting the applique shapes for this fun quilt will result in a more authentic feel. “Like a true Zen Garden, things are arranged in a peaceful pattern to promote serenity but perfection is not the goal,” says Kim Hanson of Charm & Whimsy, designer of My Zen Garden. Featuring the Sunny Happy Skies collection from Riley Blake, this quilt would brighten up any little girls’ room.
Round & Round from Ramona Sorensen
Ramona Sorensen’s Round & Round pattern lets you showcase various monochromatic prints and blenders in this classic bed quilt. Rather than sticking with one line, Ramona took advantage of the large, easy-to-piece courthouse steps block and let her creativity create her own fabric “collection.”
