Blue Indigo
Made by Sandra Keller Nine-patch quilts are a perennial favorite; they are easy and fun to make. This one--with its classic indigo blues and crisp white prints floating in a sea of apple green--is a real eye-catcher. The pattern can provide a beginning quiltmaker with a chance to practice rotary cutting and strip piecing, but even experienced quiltmakers may find they can sharpen their skill at creating even 1/4" seams and perfectly matched sharp corners.

Sandra was inspired by a photo of an antique quilt sewn by an unknown quiltmaker, c. 1885. She chose fabrics that are similar in color and design to those from that time with a variety of white with blue reproduction shirtings.
This pattern appears in the July/August 2005 (#374) issue of
Quilter's Newsletter Magazine.
