Fireworks
Made by Kyoko Honda
A collection of old kimonos and a workshop with Chieko Shibata inspired Kyoko Honda of Toyota, Japan, to make this marvelous silk quilt. Kyoko writes, "Every summer, there is a fireworks display that I enjoy, so I used colors and prints that remind me of that. I used many pieces from old kimonos, and based my design on a traditional Pineapple block."
Although Kyoko hand pieced her blocks, we give directions for paper-foundation piecing. If you use silk, you may want to use a permanent foundation, as described in the section on Assembly.
