Mary Kate Karr-Petras, Quilters Newsletter’s Associate Editor, learned to quilt in the 1990s from books and magazines, including Quilters Newsletter. She made her first quilt entirely by hand before she decided she liked quilting enough to invest in a sewing machine. She still loves the look of handwork, but is determined to master free-motion machine quilting in this lifetime. Mary Kate lives with her husband and two young daughters in the Denver area.
